Conduct a Cost Analysis
We are seeking volunteers with experience and expertise in nonprofit financial management (or cost allocation) to assist in establishing a negotiated indirect cost rate (NICRA) that will enhance our organization's ability to manage future federal grant awards. This project is critical for our continued growth and sustainability - allowing for a more effective allocation of operational costs. We currently rely on the de minimis rate, which does not adequately cover costs incurred.
The project would involve preparing our Development Director for the submission of a NICRA application to our cognizant agency. Prior to submission, we would appreciate guidance on determining the best rate for our organization (total payroll costs vs. modified total direct costs) and ensuring our financial data complies with federal costs principles and audit requirements.
Key tasks would include a cost analysis, developing a cost allocation methodology, preparing necessary documentation, and providing counsel on the submission process.
Help our organization take an essential step in expanding capacity! Establishing a NICRA will ease the financial strain on our programmatic services and ultimately provide further support to the individuals who need it most. This project will serve as a key turning point for growth and sustainability - something you'll play a direct role in helping accomplish.
Your contribution will empower us to allocate operational costs more effectively and ensure funding is used where it's needed most - directly back into the communities we serve.
We have the financial documents (990, Audit, etc.) that are needed for analyzing and developing an effective ICR. Our Development Director is a long-time grant writer with years of experience managing federal and state grant awards and organizational budgets. They will be available at any point necessary - with the ultimate goal of providing a seamless experience between them and the volunteer.
The organization has had a prior NICRA, though it lapsed when the renewal documentation was not submitted. While this isn't necessary helpful now, it hopefully provides additional insight into the organization's past financial practices.
