Platform Justice is seeking an experienced nonprofit fundraising professional to conduct a fundraising readiness assessment and help us determine what must be strengthened before we begin pursuing significant institutional and individual funding.
Over the past year, our volunteer team has developed Platform Justice’s organizational foundation, program concepts, website, impact deck, and early-stage technology and research initiatives. We are now preparing to transition from volunteer-led development into a sustainable, funded organization.
The volunteer will review our existing fundraising materials, organizational positioning, internal capacity, and systems and identify the most important gaps affecting our fundability.
The project should assess:
* The clarity and strength of our mission, programs, and theory of impact
* Our current impact deck and organizational narrative
* Whether our programs are clearly defined and fundable
* Our readiness to approach foundations, major donors, and institutional partners
* The strength of our current case for support
* Our proposed budget and funding needs
* Our internal capacity to manage fundraising, donor relationships, grants, and reporting
* Any governance, measurement, documentation, or organizational gaps that should be addressed
* Which fundraising materials and systems should be developed next
The primary deliverable will be a written fundraising readiness assessment that identifies our strengths, gaps, priorities, and recommended next steps. We would also value a prioritized action plan that distinguishes what must be completed immediately, what can be improved over the next several months, and what can wait until after initial funding is secured.
This assessment will serve as the foundation for subsequent projects focused on developing our case for support, fundraising strategy, prospect pipeline, and grant materials.
Platform Justice exists to make the harms caused by powerful digital platforms visible, understandable, and actionable. Workers, consumers, hosts, small businesses, and other platform users often face unfair fees, unexplained account suspensions, unsafe working conditions, algorithmic discrimination, inaccessible appeals processes, and other forms of harm. These experiences are usually handled as isolated complaints, leaving affected people without meaningful support and preventing policymakers, journalists, researchers, and advocates from seeing broader patterns.
Our goal is to build public-interest infrastructure that brings these experiences together. Platform Justice is developing tools and initiatives—including harm documentation, community reporting, public education, research, and resources for workers and consumers—that can help identify systemic problems and strengthen accountability across the digital economy.
A sustainable fundraising strategy is essential to achieving this mission. Over the past year, volunteers have helped us build our organizational foundation, program concepts, impact deck, communications materials, and early-stage tools. However, volunteer labor alone cannot sustain the level of research, technology development, community engagement, verification, and coordination required to serve affected communities responsibly.
This project will help Platform Justice secure the resources needed to move from planning and volunteer-led development into consistent public service. Funding will allow us to strengthen and launch our tools, responsibly collect and analyze reports of platform harm, publish useful findings, create accessible resources, support community participation, and build partnerships with journalists, advocates, researchers, and policymakers.
The pro bono volunteer’s contribution will therefore extend far beyond fundraising advice. Their expertise will help create the financial foundation for Platform Justice to:
Give workers and consumers a trusted place to document their experiences
Identify recurring patterns that individual complaint systems may conceal
Produce research and public-interest information that can support advocacy and policy reform
Connect affected communities with practical resources and opportunities for collective action
Build technology that serves the public rather than reinforcing platform power
Transition critical organizational roles from unpaid volunteer work into paid positions
By helping us build fundraising momentum, the volunteer will support the growth of an organization designed to amplify people whose concerns are often ignored by the platforms controlling their work, income, housing, purchases, and access to essential services.
This project will help ensure that the foundation our volunteers have spent the past year building becomes a durable and effective resource for communities affected by platform power.
Platform Justice has spent the past year building its mission, programs, volunteer team, and organizational foundation. We are now ready to move from early-stage development into a more focused fundraising phase, and there is strong internal agreement that securing sustainable funding is our highest priority.
We have already developed core program concepts, including public-interest tools and initiatives focused on documenting platform harms, supporting workers and consumers, and increasing accountability within the digital economy. We also have an active group of volunteers contributing across research, communications, product development, and community engagement.
We have already prepared an impact deck that explains our mission, the harms we are addressing, our proposed tools and programs, the communities we aim to serve, and the broader public-interest need for Platform Justice. We have also developed core program concepts focused on documenting platform harms, supporting workers and consumers, and increasing accountability within the digital economy.
To prepare for this project, we are gathering our existing materials, including our mission statement, program descriptions, organizational goals, draft budgets, volunteer roles, website content, and preliminary funding ideas. Our founder will serve as the primary point of contact and will be available to provide background information, make decisions, attend regular meetings, and complete agreed-upon follow-up tasks.
We understand that successful fundraising requires more than producing a list of grant opportunities. We are prepared to work collaboratively with the volunteer to clarify our case for support, strengthen our organizational narrative, identify realistic funding prospects, and establish a practical fundraising system.
The recommendations and tools developed through this project will be actively implemented by our founder and volunteer team. We plan to assign clear responsibilities for prospect research, proposal preparation, donor outreach, relationship tracking, and follow-up. We will also use the project outcomes to create a shared fundraising calendar, maintain an organized prospect pipeline, and guide future grant and donor communications.
Our goal is to build lasting internal capacity, not to complete a one-time exercise. The volunteer’s work will help us create fundraising momentum, pursue our first significant institutional and individual funding, and ultimately establish paid leadership and development capacity within Platform Justice.
