Pro Bono Week is a global celebration of the people who volunteer their professional expertise in marketing, legal services, HR, strategy and IT to support nonprofits. Inspired by the American Bar Association, Taproot Foundation works with partners around the globe to focus attention on the pro bono movement each year in the third week of October.
Pro Bono Week 2013 will be held October 20-26. During Pro Bono week, Taproot DC and its partners will host a variety of educational events to train Washington, DC area nonprofits on how they can power their work through the use of pro bono consultants.
Stone Soup Films volunteers will fan out among several pro bono projects being conducted to document their work. Liz Norton, Director and Founder of Stone Soup Films says, “By telling the story of pro bono and its impact, we hope to both show best practices as well as inspire others to join the movement.” A completed film about the week will be shown at the final gathering of participants and will serve as a tool to showcase the work online for future campaigns.
Taproot Washington DC Executive Director, Max Skolnik, says, ” I’m very excited to be a part of DC’s first Pro Bono Week celebration. It will be a week of transformative work for both local nonprofits and professional volunteers. I can’t wait to see the results.”
The week of activities includes a day-long event: Pro Bono Campfire, on Tuesday, October 22, hosted by Washington Gas Energy Systems, where pro bono volunteer consultants will be matched with a nonprofit organization to help achieve a done-in-a-day capacity-building project. Pro Bono Campfire partners including IMPACT and AIGA DC have committed to provide teams of highly qualified pro bono consultants.
