Taproot announces election of new board members

Three leaders in data, AI, and product join the board to help nonprofits put technology to work and measure what it delivers

Erin McHugh Saif, Thalamus “T” Hill, and Michael McGuire join Taproot’s Board of Directors

Nonprofits do extraordinary work. In a moment of rapid change, they need experienced leaders in their corner who know how to turn data, technology, and innovation into stronger programs and measurable results for their missions.

That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome three new members to Taproot’s Board of Directors: Erin McHugh Saif, Thalamus “T” Hill, and Michael McGuire. Each has spent a career building expertise in technology and data, and each has chosen to put it to work for the social sector. And each shares a belief at the heart of pro bono: expertise, generously shared, changes what’s possible.

“Nonprofits are being asked to do more with less while technology moves faster than most organizations can absorb. They shouldn’t have to figure it out alone. We set out to find people who have built the future nonprofits are stepping into. Erin, T, and Michael have done exactly that, and they’ve chosen to aim that expertise at the sector’s hardest problems. With them, Taproot will set the standard for pro bono service and make sure the next era of technology works for every nonprofit. I couldn’t be more excited to build what’s next alongside them.” – Cat Ward, CEO, Taproot

Erin McHugh Saif

Chief Executive Officer, Measure Well

Erin has spent over two decades building products and technology for people, organizations, and communities doing some of the hardest work. As Chief Product Officer of Microsoft Tech for Social Impact, she led the product, engineering, research, and design teams serving more than 400,000 nonprofits worldwide, launched Microsoft Cloud for Nonprofit, and grew the nonprofit software business from$15M to $100M in three years. In addition, she co-authored the Common Data Model for Nonprofits and her teams launched Microsoft’s first industry cloud AI model for fundraising.

Today she’s building Measure Well, a new venture that helps leaders improve economic mobility by using data and technology to drive greater impact and outcomes. Envisioned by The Ballmer Group and fiscally sponsored by TechSoup, Measure Well brings data, technology, and AI resources and training to over 300 cradle-to-career and Place Based Partnerships working to expand opportunities for children and their families.

“I am a builder who has seen the power of scalable data and technology to improve lives and livelihoods across this country.” – Erin McHugh Saif, Chief Executive Officer, Measure Well

Thalamus “T” Hill

SVP, Enterprise AI Strategy, Governance and Analytics, Voya Financial

T was one of us before he ever joined the board. As a Taproot pro bono consultant, he built an AI literacy roadmap for The Tech Interactive and saw firsthand how far the right expertise can take a mission.

By day, he leads enterprise AI strategy, governance, and advanced analytics at Voya Financial. He brings 25 years of leadership across financial services, fundraising, marketing analytics, and data science, including 13 years at RKD Group and earlier roles at Merkle, McCann, and Prudential.

“When experienced professionals share their expertise, they don’t simply solve today’s challenges. They leave organizations stronger, more capable, and better equipped to fulfill their missions.” – Thalamus “T” Hill, SVP, Enterprise AI Strategy, Governance and Analytics, Voya Financial

Michael McGuire

Group Director, Transformation and Giving Operations, Walmart.org

Michael has spent 20 years leading change at one of the world’s largest companies, across philanthropy, sustainability, ESG, merchandising, and emerging technology. A product leader and builder of technology-enabled solutions, he founded and led ventures inside Walmart’s in-house technology incubator, exploring early uses of AI and advanced analytics.

Today he runs transformation and giving operations at Walmart.org. His philosophy is one every nonprofit leader will appreciate: technology should make work simpler, not harder.

“Pro bono service helps close an important gap for nonprofits: access to expertise. It gives organizations the support to solve immediate challenges while also building capabilities that can make them stronger over time.” – Michael McGuire, Group Director, Transformation and Giving Operations, Walmart.org

Building what’s next, together

Erin, T, and Michael begin their three-year terms on October 19. They join at a pivotal moment, and Taproot intends to lead it. Taproot is building the next era of pro bono, helping nonprofits put skilled expertise, data, and innovation to work for their missions. Our vision is a future where every nonprofit can be as bold and impactful as its mission demands.

They will help us get there. Erin brings a builder’s instinct for technology that scales to the masses. T brings the strategic and governance perspective to lead with data and AI responsibly. Michael brings a practitioner’s view on turning new technology into tools that reduce complexity for the people who use them. Together, they will help more nonprofits can put expertise, data, and technology to work, reach more people, and prove what works.

Three different paths. One shared belief in what’s possible when people with expertise choose to invest in others.

Erin, T, and Michael, welcome to the board. Let’s power what’s possible.
