Summer All-Root Retreat

Last week, our team met in Woodstock, IL for our semi-annual All-Root Retreat – three days of pro bono strategy and plotting. Roots (otherwise known as Taproot employees) came together from all across the country. We caught up with friends and colleagues from different offices, enjoyed exploring a new city, and celebrated being part of this amazing group of pro bono professionals. Then we set to work figuring out how to make pro bono even better! It was perhaps our best retreat ever. And that’s saying something.

What does an All-Root Retreat look like?

Tough question! Highlights included:

  • former hurdles star and current pro bono star, Allie H., hurdled all six executive management team members in the opening ceremonies (yes, really!)
  • Alethea H. trained the team on 50 inappropriate ice breaker questions to use for workshops and staff meetings
  • a mock Supreme Court led by chief justice Rob A. ruled in favor of our ScopeAthon program (phew!)
  • I fractured a rib attempting a trust fall into a web of yarn held by all Roots at the closing ceremony

But really, an All-Root Retreat looks like the pro bono movement growing and getting stronger. Making high-quality pro bono accessible to more of the nonprofits who need it most is why we do what we do. We’re excited about the future of pro bono – especially after our retreat!

Together, we envision a future where all organizations with promising solutions will be equipped to successfully take on urgent social challenges. We will lead the way in ensuring that mission-driven organizations have access to high-impact pro bono where and when they need it.

Let’s hear it for our awesome staff who MAKE IT MATTER every day! When we all work together, the future of pro bono looks bright!
