At Taproot, we’re always excited to see good pro bono work year-round. But there are four times every year when we have the pleasure of awarding new pro bono projects via Service Grants to excellent nonprofits and starting them on their pro bono journey – or continuing that journey.
Now is one of those times. We’ve awarded a new slate of pro bono Service Grants to more than 60 organizations across the country, and we’re excited to get to work with them. All of these projects will soon be staffing teams, and these Service Grants provide an opportunity for our pro bono consultants to get to work too!
Below is just a small sample of some of these great projects. If you are a Taproot pro bono consultant, you can log into your Taproot account, view upcoming projects, and express interest in the projects that appeal to you!
Chicago
KAN-WIN provides culturally and linguistically sensitive service programs for families in Chicago’s Asian American community to eradicate violence against women, including domestic violence and sexual assault. They’re in the midst of expanding their clientele and their programs, and want to effectively communicate their evolving mission and programs to the public with a new brochure.
This Brochure Service Grant will staff a Project Manager, Marketing Manager, Graphic Designer, Copywriter, and Photographer.
SF Bay Area
Throughout Contra Costa County, Meals on Wheels Senior Outreach Services has been dedicated to helping seniors live independently and with dignity since 1968. To continue to meet their mission, they are shifting their model to respond quickly and efficiently to their client needs, provide better overall customer service to seniors and caregivers, and to build stronger partnerships with local health care institutions. To reflect that shift, they’re developing new marketing collateral – and already have a new brochure in hand and a new website in the works. They need an annual report too, and you can help deliver it. In doing so, you will help share their vision of a new program model, demonstrate their accomplishments, cultivate new partnerships with funders and donors, and increase the level of giving from current supporters.
This Annual Report Service Grant will staff a Project Manager, Marketing Manager, Copywriter, Graphic Designer, Strategy Analyst, and Photographer.
Los Angeles
Is education up your alley? Then The Nurtury, Inc. in Los Angeles might be the right project for you. The Nurtury is a small, nonprofit developmentally appropriate preschool that has been providing quality care for the children of working families since 1975. At this time, the Board would like to create a Strategic Plan to proactively address the changing landscape in the private preschool market and retool its approaches to meet their mission.
This Strategic Planning Prep Service Grant will staff a Project Manager, Strategy Consultant, and two Strategy Associates.
New York City
The team at Forestdale, Inc. works to ensure that children have the fundamental assets they need to thrive: a safe and secure home life, educational excellence and opportunity, and health and sexuality education.
They provide critical support to vulnerable children in their New York community, mainly through foster care, counseling, and advocacy services, and they work with around 1500 families annually on programs such as the Fathering Initiative and Teen Parents in Action.
A brochure would allow them to tell their story and communicate the amazing work they do to a wide audience. If this challenge speaks to you, then help them create a piece to inspire others to support their work.
This Brochure Service Grant will staff a Project Manager, Marketing Manager, Graphic Designer, Copywriter, and Photographer.

Last but not least in our national’s capitol, Mentors, Inc. provides mentoring support to public and charter high school students in Washington, D.C. and improves graduation rates and students’ outlook for the future.
This organization is growing and needs guidance for engaging our existing volunteers in new ways, and recruiting new volunteers to help them grow not just in scale but also in strength. This project will help them develop the foundation for growing that new volunteer program.
