Summer is just around the corner and while the days are heating up, so are our Taproot Foundation Service Grants. Over the next few weeks, new projects will begin staffing, and we’re excited to tell you about the incredible nonprofits we’re working with.
One of our recent pro bono consulting applicants said, “pro bono work is like getting a free gym membership for the brain.” And she was right. Not only does pro bono make an incredible impact on nonprofits, it provides an opportunity for professionals to give back, use their skills in a different way, meet new people, and think creatively to help tackle big challenges.

Here is just a sample of the projects that will be staffing:
Chicago
Having worked with the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana before, we’ve seen their ability to build girls of courage, confidence, and character. Plus, they know the impact of pro bono. In this project, the Girl Scouts need strategic help to better understand any competitors, identify additional collaborators, and leverage their ability to build their impact on girls in the region. This Competitor-Collaborator Analysis Service Grant will staff: a project manager, strategy consultant, and two strategy associates.
Los Angeles
Another past Service Grant recipient, The Saban Free Clinic, in collaboration with strategic partners, serves as a medical home for the underserved and those who are most vulnerable by providing comprehensive, dependable and affordable quality health care in a caring environment. The Saban Free Clinic comes to Taproot looking to identify and address any performance management issues to ensure they are best equipped to effectively lead the Clinic and its services through a time of transition. This Performance Management Service Grant will staff: a project manager, performance management analyst, training specialist, and internal communications manager.
San francisco Bay Area
The Bread Project’s mission is to empower individuals with limited resources on their path to self-sufficiency through skills instruction, on-the-job training in our social enterprises, and assistance with establishing a career in the food industry. In 2010, the Bread Project significantly expanded their capacity, programs, and activities by moving into the former Semifreddis industrial bakery in Emeryville, CA. In the three years since, the expansion and changes to their program, and impact have been dramatic. It is with their dramatic growth, success and enhanced name recognition that Bread Project is ready to release a sophisticated annual report. This Annual Report Service Grant will staff: a project manager, brand strategist, marketing manager, graphic designer, copywriter, strategy analyst, and photographer.
Washington, DC
The right messaging can help any organization exponentially increase the effectiveness of its communication to core audiences. Whitman-Walker Health comes to Taproot for professional messaging and brand strategy support to enhance its work as a full service patient-centered medical home (PCMH) facility with demonstrated expertise in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and HIV/AIDS health care. This Key Messaging and Brand Strategy Grant will staff: a project manager, brand strategist, copywriter, and marketing manager.
New York City
Literacy Inc. (LINC) works with school, family, business, and community partners in low income neighborhoods to create and sustain reading programs that further literacy skills for at-risk children. Founded in 1996, LINC has developed a proven system for any neighborhood to bring together its own resources on behalf of early literacy. However, LINC lacks an effective system to capture information on its many supporters and volunteers. A Salesforce Database is what it needs to strengthen, grow and thrive. This Salesforce Database Service Grant will staff: a project manager, a configuration specialist, a data analyst, and a business analyst.
These are just a few of the many incredible organizations with Service Grants that will soon be staffing.
