DC’s Pro Bono Week Recap

Pro Bono Week has been a smashing success in the Washington, DC region.

The Taproot Foundation and its partners organized a series of events to highlight the successes of nonprofits and volunteers in the field. On Monday, in partnership with Winston & Strawn, Taproot presented a workshop on legal and business pro bono opportunities to over 20 nonprofit groups.

The next day, Washington Gas sponsored the Pro Bono Campfire. Volunteers from Taproot and Impact worked with 23 organizations to deliver critical micro-projects, such as brochures, strategic planning documents, annual reports, newsletters, and website designs.

On Wednesday, over 50 volunteers and nonprofit leaders celebrated their work at the Up!Root Party and heard inspiring speeches by C. Brian Williams of Step Afrika! And Diana Leon Taylor of the Nonprofit Roundtable.

On Thursday, Taproot led a panel on pro bono strategies at the Foundation Center.

Finally, on Friday, Taproot and a team from Deloitte worked on a project to build internal capacity.

To capture all of these extraordinary efforts, Stone Soup Films created a powerful documentary about the week’s activities. See it above or you can watch it here. As we move into the new year, let’s remember that there is an incredible amount of work to do in the social sector. We will only be able to bring about transformative change through innovation, collective action, and disruption. Being powered by pro bono is the first step.
